Right Choices
The Right Choices program is an initiative of the Wollongong Hawks. Right Choices is a personal development and social awareness program developed to help the Illawarra's teenagers as they confront a range of social issues in their everyday lives.
The pilot program is proudly supported and funded by the NSW State Government.
As a not for profit community based and owned organisation, the Wollongong ahm Hawks pride ourselves on being an important part to the community and to also be seen as upstanding role models for our youth."This program has been developed to not only enhance the lives of the Illawarra youth but to embrace our sports heroes as role models in the community and for them to assist in delivering some hard hitting messages to the students the Right Choices sessions are delivered to." He added.
Right Choices will initially be targeted to the following six High Schools in the Illawarra including:
- Illawarra Seniors
- Illawarra Sports
- Kanahooka
- Lake Illawarra
- Warilla
- Warrawong High Schools.
The Right Choices program is split into five sessions to be delivered across varying age groups within the High Schools including;
- Safe Partying & Sexual Health
- Driver Safety
- Say "no" to drugs and adopt a healthy lifestyle
- Planning for a Positive Future
- Youth Suicide & How to Beat a Bully
- Youth Depression & Mental Health.
As important role models in our community there is a great benefit in the Hawks players being part of delivering such strong messages to the youth of the Illawarra. Right Choices is all about raising the issues that are confronting teenagers in their everyday life, show them some of the serious consequences that are ahead of them if they choose a darker path, hear from guest speakers on their real life stories but most of all inform them on how to make right choices for themselves.
The Right Choices sessions are interactive, hard hitting and are a unique program to the Illawarra Region.
