ENVIRONMENTWollongong Hawks are involved we numerous activities that focus on and contribute to caring for our environment. National Tree Day National Tree Day and Schools Tree Day combine to make Australia's biggest community tree-planting event. Co-ordinated by Planet Ark and proudly sponsored by Toyota, these are special days for all Australians to help out by planting and caring for native trees and shrubs to improve the environment in which they live. National Tree Day was co-founded by Olivia Newton-John and Planet Ark in 1996 and since then more than 2 million volunteers have planted over 15 million native trees and shrubs! It's a day to get down and get your hands dirty to help the planet! Clean Up Australia Day / Clean Up Lake Illawarra Every year hundreds of thousands of Australians get stuck in and clean up their local environment by collecting and removing rubbish on Clean Up Australia Day.. |
HEALTHThrough all our programs and initiatives the Wollongong Hawks promote and encourage living a healthy lifestyle for all community members in the Illawarra. ahm Check It Program developed by Healthier Illawarra Men (HIM) that includes, business, community including a number of leading Illawarra medical practitioners with the aim to promote men's health. HIM, under endorsement from the Illawarra Division of General Practice (IDGP), provides a free men's health screening event, called 'CHECK IT' at the WIN Entertainment Centre (WEC) during Men's Health Week. Right Choices The Right Choices program is an initiative of the Wollongong Hawks. Right Choices is a personal development and social awareness program developed to help the Illawarra's teenagers as they confront a range of social issues in their everyday lives.This initiative educates and encourages high school students to adopt a healthy lifestyle, say no to drugs and understand depression. Schools Hoops School Hoops is a 1 hour basketball skill session, coached by the Wollongong ahm Hawks players and coaching staff within the school. Students are educated on living a healthy lifestyle through being active and developing their fitness |
